Optomap at Today’s Vision Rayford and Riley Fuzzel
As much as you may care about the health and function of your eyes, you may not care much for the traditional process of viewing the insides of the eyes to check for problems. If you sometimes dread (or even delay) optometry visits because you hate the idea of getting your eyes dilated, you'll be happy to know that there's a simple, faster, more convenient way to receive this important form of screening. Here at Today’s Vision Rayford and Riley Fuzzel, we used an advanced imaging option known as Optomap.
Benefits of Optomap
Some of the most devastating threats to your eyesight occur deep within the eye. These threats include macular degeneration, optic nerve damage due to glaucoma, leaking blood vessels in the eye caused by diabetic retinopathy, retinal holes or tears, and tumors that can rob you of your vision. It's critical that your annual comprehensive eye exam includes the visual inspection of the interior of each eye. Unfortunately, we can see only a small percentage of the retina through your pupil unless we first dilate the pupil with drugs. This dilation may be uncomfortable, can linger for hours after the exam, and forces you to wear dark glasses in response to the increased glare. That's why many patients greatly prefer the Optomap approach, in which no dilation is necessary.
Optomap offer a number of other advantages compared to traditional retinal screening. A specialized camera takes full-color panoramic photographs of each eye's interior surface. This device can view up to 200 degrees of the retinal surface, much greater than the limited view offered by a non-dilated pupil. The digital photographs are both highly detailed and available for examination right away, giving us an ongoing permanent record of your eyes' health.
Quick, Convenient Eye Screening at Our Optometry Clinic
Nothing could be easier than the Optomap screenings offered by our Spring TX optometry clinic as part of a comprehensive eye and vision exam. All you have to do is rest your eyes and chin against the device's viewer. A brief, bright flash illuminates each eye for the camera shot. A moment later, our team can show you the images of your eyes' interiors and discuss our findings with you. You'll enjoy not only comfort and convenience but also the peace of mind that comes from knowing your state of ocular wellness from year to year.
